Conestoga Marketplace will call include multi-family housing units, a new hotel and pad sites along Hwy 281 and 13th Street.
Amur Plaza Expansion
Amur Equipment Finance approached Grow Grand Island with a vision and design for the plaza area in Railside which expands the existing gathering area and creates a greenspace environment, as well as a permanent stage. As equal funding partners, the project began in the late summer of 2022. Grow Grand Island then added public ADA-compliant restrooms to the project.
Both Amur and Grow Grand Island see this project as a quality-of-life asset to the residents of Grand Island, as well as an asset for the purposes of talent attraction and retention. There is entertainment value, greenspace value, and flare for continued Railside development.
This park-like area is used for the annual HEAR GI concert series. The area can also be utilized for other events that are suited for this type of outdoor venue.
Future Builders Challenge
Entrepreneurship is identified as a top community priority by Grow Grand Island. The Grand Island Area Economic Development Corp. introduced a new program that focuses on builder and entrepreneur talents in our high school students.
The program is a community partnership that encourages growth in entrepreneurial and business-minded students. This is an opportunity to tap into their full potential and become tomorrow’s builders.
Grounded in global Gallup research, the Builder Profile 10 (BP 10) assessment is administered to more than 1,000 area high school sophomores where the students learn about their propensity for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Students with extreme builder talents are then invited to participate in the Future Builders Challenge.
Elevate program launch
Elevate Grand Island offers a hands-on learning experience, intended to empower and inform Grand Island’s New American leadership. Through a 7-module program, participants will receive an introduction to Grand Island, including city, nonprofit, business, and county services. Participants will also have opportunities to connect and engage with business and community leaders, further building a welcoming community and fostering a sense of belonging.
The target participant is a new resident of Grand Island, English learner, and has a desire to grow personally and professionally.
Entryway Signage
Entryway signage becomes the welcome mat for the community. Grand Island's signs had become aged and were quite small for our booming city. So, all existing signs were targeted for an update.
Existing signs are located at Highway 281, East Highway 30, and at the Central Nebraska Regional Airport.
The sign replacement project includes a more grand appearance in size and in elegance perched on landscaped berms.
New sign locations are being sought for West Highway 30 (once rerouting occurs), South Locust, and North Highway 2.
